it is useful for us to be as relentlessly pro-business as we can. we're very focused on education and we want to be the no. 1 state for solving this riddle that this country has become from being the no. 1 public education nation to one in the bottom half. we know the things -- at risk kids are coming from difficult neighborhoods and often broken families, they need a longer school day. that is nothing new there. there's another way to do that without spending a bunch of money. you can get your teachers union to agree to stagger the school day. some teachers come in early and you have study hall, some come in later and you have sports after school. there is a bunch of ways to address education. great teachers more than parent involvement or anything, you put a great teacher in front of a kid, they work miracles. i think our goal is to say that we're going to fix education. we're working statewide to begin to implement. we do not want them filling out multiple choice tests but you have to measure the effectiveness of a teacher. our goal is sitting do

for us, it's all about mild temperatures and dry weather. great weather to get outside, all the way into and through the holiday weekend. so we will be foggy in the north bay. watch out for widespread dense fog up and down the i-5 corridor. otherwise, mainly sunny through the weekend. and how about highs near 70 degrees. that's a treat. we will have it for the next four days, including tomorrow. oakland, 8 degrees above average. concord, 7 degrees above average. and san jose, 4 degrees above what is normal. shopping in and around palo alto, stanford shopping center, 69 degrees. walnut creek, 70. sausalito, 65. san francisco is 67 tomorrow. saturday and sunday, low 70's, mainly sunny skies. we'll stay sunny and dry. upper 60's on monday and tuesday. then i see a pattern change, a pretty significant one. next wednesday we go cloudier and thursday may usher in a rather wet pattern. but you know what? that's a week from now and we have a beautiful holiday weekend to enjoy. highs around 70 each of the next four days. >> gotta love that. >> gorgeo

i'm glad we're put thing space to use. i love we're going to see exciting changes at the park and be able to see that transform and see this space actually utilized by the businesses that want to stay in san francisco. so, i think this is a l really a wonderful project to see going forward. so, i will be supporting this item. in terms of the $58 million, i am a little bit weary about that number. and i guess i don't have very much to be weary about yet, but i'm hoping when it does come back yet with the lease approval we will have title numbers and be sure we've done our due diligence on it. at the same time, if it is that number, it sounds like a very good deal to move forward just because we're going to be able to put that space into use, something we're not able to do at the moment. and, so, i would be very happy to support that item. so, do we have a motion to accept the recommended changes that the budget analyst suggested and was read into the record and then to send the item forward with recommendation as amended? o

that is painting with a very broad brush, but it's something that encourages us to take action. i think in my prosecutors office there is hard and soft power. the hard power in a prosecutor's office, in a police department, it's arresting. it's putting in jail. it's going in court and find this person guilty and punish them. that's a kind of hard power and most of what is done in a prosecutor's office -- most of the resources are devoted to those hard power tasks, but although we devote less resources to soft power there are probably more important and soft power is where you change the hearts and minds of people. where you try to change cultures, try to change the norms in the community are and certainly in our office we devote significant resources to this. just a couple of examples. we have something called the parent project, and i am very grateful in a time of really reduced funding our board of supervisors stepped up and provided funding for otherwise what was run on a shoe string out of our office, and it's a program that teaches parents to be better parents and parents g
